Ace Hardware's Perrysburg Township distribution center will be closed and moved to a new center in Columbus next year.

It will cost the area about 100 jobs. The center at 959 5th St., near Buck Road, is to close in the last three months of 2014.

Sasha Bigda, a spokesman for Ace, said the move is to better serve the stores. There are relatively few Ace hardware stores in the Toledo area. The distribution center handles merchandise sold in stores in Ohio, parts of Michigan, and northern Kentucky.

"Ace’s valued Toledo employees, many of whom are tenured, will be provided with a full range of transition services during this period of change," Ms. Bigda said.

Township officials were not aware of the closing. The center dates back to 1974.

"You hate to see that," township Trustee Gary Britten said. "It's a shame, you hate to lose any business much less a place that was always a good neighbor."

He said Ace often helped with donations for township's Operation Bread Basket drive gives food and hygiene essentials, clothing, and toys to at-need families.

"Ace has been here a long time, it is probably an older building and now-a-days with all the highways they can have a new building anywhere," Mr. Britten said. "It is really a shame, they were wonderful neighbors."

There is one Ace store in Bowling Green, one is in Sylvania, and another northeast of Toledo.

A manager at the Bowling Green store was not aware of of the distribution center in Perrysburg Township, so he wasn't concerned about getting inventory after the relocation.
