Perrysburg's farmers market draws hundreds

Hundreds of people were outside in downtown Perrysburg Thursday evening for the farmers market, a true slice of small-town life.

On the crowded sidewalk, there were, at times, a dog-led traffic jam because so many people were out with their pets. Children played on the sidewalks, and local restaurants on Louisiana Avenue were bustling as people sat outside to eat and drink.

At the market, vendors sold everything, including chocolate-covered strawberries, homemade baguettes, jewelry, toffee, and other gourmet food items.

The farmers market, run by the Perrysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau, is every Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m., until Oct. 11.

Bob Sanders, who made his own salsa outside Bowling Green, said the Perrysburg market was his favorite farmers market to sell at. Clearly, he’s a fan. This is his third year selling at the market.

“As it warms up and kids get out of school, it gets busier and busier,” he said, in between offering free samples to patrons.

The market has a regional draw as Melissa Cherney visited from South Toledo. She tries to come here as much as she can to buy fresh fruits and vegetables and herb plants. Her two children, however, prefer the kettle corn.

“It’s just something really nice,” she said about the market because she prefers buying items locally and naturally.
