Gene Parker, a jazz singer from Perrysburg, performed Thursday during Music at the Market in his hometown.

The free show, organized by the city of Perrysburg and the Perrysburg Area Arts Council, was at 140 E. Commodore Square, Perrysburg.

He is a former saxophone instructor at Bowling Green State University and previous director of both University of Toledo Jazz Studies and University Jazz Faculty Ensemble. He also directed the Toledo Jazz Band and Toledo Jazz Symphony, according to organizers.

Mr. Parker is a busy man.

He also leads Vibe Trio, a jazz quartet which is part of the Arts in Education program for Toledo Public Schools. He also plays with the Parker/Cook Jazz Quintet, and the Parker/Wolkins Big Band, the arts council said in a news release.
