Independence celebrated at Fort Meigs

BLADE STAFF

To celebrate the Fourth of July, Fort Meigs volunteers and staff turned to the number 18 to celebrate the festivities.

Eighteen toasts from the officers.

Eighteen rounds fired from the cannons.

Eighteen pieces of music.

“Eighteen was a very special number at this point in time,” according to a news release sent from the organization. “There were only 18 states in the Union during the War of 1812.”

Fort Meigs was scheduled to host the Independence Celebration from noon to 5 p.m.

The historic fort is located at 29100 W. River Rd. in Perrysburg.
