Mutt Strutt, home parade top weekend events in Perrysburg

BLADE STAFF

Get your walking shoes ready for this weekend.

The Wood County Humane Society’s annual Mutt Strutt will be held Saturday at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve, 29530 White Rd. at State Rt. 65 in Perrysbug.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and participants can walk any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on their own or with a pet. A $15 registration fee will be waived for walkers who turn in $15 or more in donations.

The Mutt Strutt will include a pet beauty “PAWgent,” photo booth, paw paintings, pet sketches, free training advice, and a Wood County Humane Society dog alumni parade.

Prizes for fund-raisers range from pet supplies to a Toledo Zoo membership and Imagination Station passes for the top earner in the 14 years and younger category and tickets to an Eric Church concert and a two-night hotel stay in Clearwater Beach, Fla., in the 15 years and older category.

Proceeds will fund Wood County Humane Society programs such as shelter for abused and homeless animals, cruelty investigations, education, spaying and neutering, and Safe Pets, which allows women leaving domestic violence situations to place their pets in temporary care.

While no one likely will be marching, attendees will get in a little more walking during the 2012 Parade of Homes, which begins this weekend.

Three Perrysburg homes are among the 19 featured locations throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan: 25192 Rocky Harbour Dr., Riverbed, built by Stonebridge Construction; 2210 Falling Waters Lane, River’s Edge, by Ridge Stone Builders; and 26304 Stillwater Dr., Emerald Lakes, by McCarthy Builders, Inc.

Tours begin Friday and run through Sept. 30. Hours are 5-8 p.m. Fridays, 1-8 p.m. Saturdays, and 1-6 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $5, with children 12 and younger free, and are available at any tour home. Discounted tickets are available at The Andersons.

You may not want to walk all the way to Whitehouse, but you could travel there via other means Friday night as the Perrysburg High School football team takes on Anthony Wayne for the Generals’ homecoming game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
