High school play, sports, Way Library Snowball, and travel event set for weekend

BLADE STAFF

If you're still plucking stray pine needles out of your carpet or if you've given up on all those New Year's Resolutions, it might not seem possible that it's already the last weekend in January.

Make it a good one and get out outside to the local parks for a brisk walk. Or, take part in some of the indoor activities, including one that features a snowball fight at a library. A new spin on "sh-sh-shushing" through the snow perhaps?

THURSDAY (and into the weekend)

It's curtain time for Perrysburg High School students who have been in rehearsal for weeks. This week and next, the theater department will present the Winter One Acts at the high school, 13385 Roachton Rd. The performances will be staged at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday  and at 2 p.m. Sunday.  as well as at 8 p.m. Jan. 31, Feb. 1 and 2 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 3 at the school, 13385 Roachton Rd. All seats are reserved. Tickets are on sale. The box office at the high school will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. It will also be open one hour before each curtain. Tickets are $6 to $7.

The Winter One Acts include three plays: 13 Ways to screw up Your College Interview by Ian McWethy; Lockdown by Douglas Craven, and God by Woody Allen.

FRIDAY

A flurry of fun activities will warm up a chilly evening during Way Public Library's annual Snowball from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Perrysburg.  A disc jockey will have toes tappin' and kids dancing. And there are lots of other favorite activities involving miniature golf, basketball, bingo, and paper airplanes that will add to the family-fun scene. A special area in the library will be designed for the little ones to enjoy. A variety of crafts will be available on the main floor of the library. Returning to the Snowball this year is a snowball fight, back by popular demand, and ice skating once again will be featured. No registration is required. For further information, call the library at 419-874-3135, ext. 116.

For Your Y Benefit Auction gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at the Carranor Hunt and Polo Club, 502 E. Second St., Perrysburg, with proceeds benefiting the Fort Meigs YMCA 2013 annual campaign. The $95 per ticket cost includes two complimentary cocktails and grazing stations. For tickets and sponsorship information: ymcatoledo.org/ForYourY. Details: festive attire; cash bar available; live and silent auctions. Questions? fyy2013ymca@gmail.com.

SATURDAY

With cold weather continuing this weekend, it could be a good time to huddle indoors for awhile and prep for the upcoming spring theater production auditions hosted by Owens Community College for Noises Off in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Studio Theatre Room 111, 30335 Oregon Rd., 6-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Callback auditions will be Wednesday. Area residents interested are invited to the open theater auditions. Each individual is encouraged to prepare a one-minute comedic monologue or a monologue will be provided. Production dates are April 12-14 and 19-21. Details: 567-661-2798.
