Perrysburg-Maumee high school fishing tournament delayed to May 4

BLADE STAFF

For the second consecutive year, the Maumee-Perrysburg Fishing Tournament has been postponed a week because the water level is too high in the Maumee River.

The tournament was scheduled for Saturday, but now will take place May 4.

"If it rains a lot in Indiana or around here, the water level rises and that might make it hazardous to fish," said Perrysburg Superintendent Tom Hosler.

He said since young students will be wading in the water it can not be too high or it becomes dangerous.

The tournament was started last year to bring together students, alumni, staff, and friends of Perrysburg and Maumee high schools for a friendly rivalry. Perrysburg snared the initial first-place trophy.

The time for the event on May 4 will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration at 9:30 a.m. at the Rotary Pavilion parking area at Side Cut Rotary Pavilion in Maumee. Measuring the sizes of fish which are caught will decide who wins. That will occur at 2:30 p.m.
