Raising money for future free events is the main mission of Saturday‘s live music, drinks, food, and dancing at Rock the Docks in Perrysburg.
The fundraising event by Downtown Perrysburg Inc. takes place on the shore of the Maumee River at the Perrysburg Boat Club.
It is a $5 admission and runs from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday as the Bradberries will be performing. It is only for people 21 and older.
Friday will be another night to have a drink downtown as Downtown Perrysburg Inc. throws its microbrew tasting from 7 to 10 p.m. at $20 a ticket. It was rescheduled to Friday after high winds postponed the event in February that was to be held with Winterfest.
Downtown Perrysburg Inc. throws two Rock the Docks each year and a microbrew tasting event which helps fund free family events throughout the year, such as First Fridays, Outdoor Movie Night, OctoBOOfest, holiday parade, and an indoor movie in December (which will be Frozen this year).
“This is a wonderful and unique opportunity to raise some much-needed funds while at the same time, showcase our community, and contribute to the quality of life that makes Perrysburg the best suburban downtown,” said Jeff Abke, the treasurer for Downtown Perrysburg Inc.
Sabrina Weaver, executive director of the organization, said the turnout for Rock the Docks is typically solely dependent on the weather. It averages about 600 people, but can dip to 300 in bad weather and jump to 1,000 in nice weather.
“It is gorgeous by the water to watch the sunset with some drinks and dancing,” Mrs. Weaver said. “It is phenomenal.”
The Bradberries are a northwest Ohio band that can play different songs from the past 50 years. Band members include drummer Brad Bury, base player Tom Kemper, and guitar player Scott Ballard as well as vocal contributions by all band members.
The second and final Rock the Docks of 2014 will be Sept. 20 with Velvet Jones performing.
