Fort Meigs will once again be flooded with carnival rides, food vendors, lawn chairs, and blankets for the Star Spangled Banner event on Thursday from 3 to midnight.

The fort will be spot from which to watch that evening‘s Maumee-Perrysburg fireworks, starting at dusk.

Prevention Partners in Perrysburg throw the event hosted on the lawn of Fort Meigs. it includes carnival rides, games, food, pony rides, raffles, and live music. Michelle Erford, coordinator of Prevention Partners, said the event typically attracts a few thousand people.

Last year, it raised more than $9,000. The money was used to run several PASA Teen Board events.

“It is a way for us to provide a drug-free environment for the fireworks, and it is our biggest fund-raiser,” Ms. Erford said.

The costs of the fireworks show is $30,000, split between Perrysburg and Maumee.

Admission to Fort Meigs and the carnival is free. Carnival ride tickets are $1.50 each or 20 for $20. There are several food vendors.

Perrysburg Fire Chief Jeff Klein said the best place to take in the fireworks from Perrysburg is probably Fort Meigs, with the open area without trees or houses obstructing the view.

Fireworks last about 20 to 30 minutes, and start about 10 p.m.

The forecast is for mid-70s and a 20 percent chance of rain.
