Hearing scheduled on Perrysburg official's rehiring

BLADE STAFF

A public hearing has been set for 6:10 p.m. Sept. 4 for the retiring and rehiring of Perrysburg Public Service Director Jon Eckel.

City council approved the action at a July 31 meeting, but state law requires a public hearing. If complaints are made at the hearing, council and the mayor would have to decide what happens next, said Mathew Beredo, law director.

Mr. Eckel, 54, a 36-year city employee, will be paid $79,546, or $20,321 less than his current $99,867 a year, once his rehiring begins Oct. 1.

Under a new policy, the city pays the retirees the same salaries as if they were first-time workers on the pay scale. Vacation and sick-time allotments start over.
