Solar heating considered for Perrysburg municipal pool
Perrysburg City Council's Recreation Committee recently reviewed the city's recreation budget for 2013, which includes $25,000 to install solar heating for the city pool.
That estimated amount includes two panel units for the pool house, installation of a loop from the well, and a consultant, said Jon Eckel, director of public service, at the meeting Monday.
Mr. Eckel said an engineering plan already was in place, "so far at no cost." He said the city would hire a plumbing company for the well loop but could do the rest of the installation with municipal employees.
The solar heating will raise the temperature of the pool at 915 Elm St. by 6-7 degrees.
"I don't know why anyone would fool with gas anymore," said Joseph Lawless, committee chairman and council president.
Mr. Eckel said a gas system to heat the pool would cost about $75,000.
