Perrysburg Township Fire, EMS get funds to buy rescue equipment

The Perrysburg Township Fire and EMS Department has received about $2,000 in memorial funds after responding to the scene of a resident who was injured while trimming trees on his property Sept. 29, according to Chief Tom Brice.

David Kellermeier, 63, was cutting down a tree on his West River Road property when a branch struck him. Emergency crews transported him to nearby Buttonwood Park to be air-lifted to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where he died Oct. 2.

Chief Brice said the department plans to use the funds to purchase two Stokes baskets, lightweight litters that will be added to the equipment in a fire engine and a heavy rescue vehicle, pending township trustee approval.
