Perrysburg Council OK's $1.9 million refuse truck, container purchase

Perrysburg City Council on Tuesday night approved making more than $1.9 million in purchases to buy vehicles and containers for the future automated refuse and recycling program.

Under three ordinances, the city agreed to buy four Freightliner trucks with mechanical side arms and 14,100 Toters for the program, which will begin April 22, or Earth Day. The 48 and 96-gallon bins will cost $669,597 and the truck bodies, chassis, and collecting equipment will run $856,685.

City officials intially planned to enter into seven-year leases on the vehicles, but reconsidered the financing issue, and decided to acquire the trucks through a municipal lending program, saving the city about $100,000 in interest payments.

In other action. council approved the appointment of Thomas Forquer to the planning and zoning commission. He replaces Jim Bilkovsky, whose term on the board expried and had moved from the city.
