577 Foundation gives Rose Marie Gerkovich a citizenship award

Peggy Heilman accepts the Virginia Secor Stranahan Citizenship award on behalf of her mother, Rose Marie Gerkovich, who was in France. The award was presented Sunday at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg. It is given in Ms. Secor Stranahan’s name in recognition of the recipient’s keen sense of helping others through education and experience — hallmarks of Ms. Secor Stranahan’s legacy. The Virginia Secor Stranahan Citizenship Award was given to Rose Marie Gerkovich on Sunday at the 577 Foundation, a community place founded by Virginia Stranahan.

Ms. Gerkovich is out of the country and her award was accepted by her daughter, Peggy Heilman. Ms. Gerkovich does volunteer work at several places in and near Perrysburg, including the Way Public Library, City of Perrysburg’s Planning Commission, and St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee.

The award is given to someone whose generous contributions and legacy have made a difference to the Perrysburg area. The award is presented by the the League of Women Voters of the Perrysburg Area.
