A traffic study to looking into improving traffic safety at the Hull Prairie and Roachton roads intersection has suggested a roundabout as the solution.

Wood County engineers studied the problem and didn't find a four-way stop or a traffic signal warranted, but did support a roundabout, said Gary Britten, Perrysburg Township trustee who is also road supervisor and project manager for the county engineers.

For now, Mr. Britten said, there will be a small sign placed under the Hull Prairie Road stop signs that alerts motorists that cross traffic does not stop. The problem has been cars on Hull Prairie pulling in front of cars on Roachton which don't have to stop, and thus causing accidents.

Mr. Britten said the engineers will contact Toledo Edison about placing a street light at the intersection.

Another problem intersection in Perrysburg Township is Scheider Road/Eckel Junction with State Rt. 199.

Mr. Britten was in a meeting with township Administrator Walt Celley and township Maintenance Director Kraig Gottfried and Perrysburg city and Perrysburg Schools officials.

"Everyone was kicking around ideas," Mr. Britten said. "The best case scenario is Carronade Drive being extended through and putting in a roundabout."

There will be another meeting between the schools, city, and township on Jan. 9. Scheider Road could be closed on the west side of the intersection, Mr. Britten said. A four-way stop could be another answer, but Mr. Britten said that could cause problems at St. Rt. 199 and Eckel Junction intersection on the other side of the I-75 bridge.

The bridge just north of the Scheider Road intersection makes it dangerous for cars turning from Scheider or Eckel Junction on to St. Rt. 199.

"We're still in the talking stages," Mr. Britten said.
