Area school teachers Cory Smith and Rob DeGregorio have taken their passion of testing craft beers to the Internet and found a following as the Beer Review Crew blog.

Mr. Smith, of Perrysburg, has home brewed beers with his parents and has a love and passion for testing and trying different beers. When he met Ron DeGregorio, of Toledo, while teaching at Horizon Science Academy in Toledo, the blog began in August.

“We started out just on Tumblr and didn‘‍t expect anything to come from it. We were just having fun writing reviews,” Mr. Smith said. “I’m not going to say we’‍re popular, but we‘‍re gaining popularity slowly.”

After getting 20-30 hits on a day in the beginning, now the blog has about 120 clicks a day and up to 2,500 a day with some posts. The tandem tries have something new for the blog each day, but typically have six posts a week.

The six reviews a week go along with two YouTube posts they try to make weekly.

The friends and teachers have been able to travel to Chicago, throughout Ohio, and Michigan to test out beers and write brewery reviews, too.

Perks have included some T-shirts from beer makers, but haven‘t included big money. They have made about $10 through YouTube ads.

“We‘‍re loving doing it and having fun,” Mr. Smith said. “Hopefully we can bring more craft beer culture to Toledo and we can get the word out for good beer.”
