Perrysburg High School Science teacher Kevin English has been named the Buckeye CableSystem BCSN Teacher of the Month for January.
BCSN will air a 30-second vignette of Mr. English throughout the month. The award makes him eligible for BCSN’s Teacher of the Year award, which will be announced May 13.
Mr. English teaches Biology, Advanced Placement Biology and serves as the co-chair of the high school Science Department. Outside of the classroom, he is the student council advisor, has served as Pride Club advisor, track coach and girls’ basketball coach.
In his 18 years of teaching at the high school, Mr. English has raised thousands of dollars for community and national charities. In 2009, he was named the Northwest Ohio Environmental Educator of the year for his work in bringing a native wetlands eco-system to the high school campus.
Former student Isabella Adamiak, now a fourth-year student at Rice University in Houston, said of Mr. English: “My final year of high school I took the AP Biology course taught by Mr. English and by the end of the class I considered him to be one of the greatest treasures among the faculty of Perrysburg High School. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject not only made his class engaging and enlightening but also made us look forward to learning about life’s evolution, processes and wonders with eager curiosity.”
“Kevin’s caring and compassion is genuine and deeply felt,” stated Michael P. Short, Ed. D., PHS Principal. “He loves working with young people and they respond to him.”
