Perrysburg YMCA warns patrons to leave valuable items at home

YMCA officials said they warn people not to leave their valuables in their cars after a woman reported her pursue stolen, the second time in as many days this week at the Perrysburg YMCA.

Beth Smith, 59, of Bowling Green, told police her purse was stolen from her car parked at the YMCA on 13415 Eckel Junction Rd. The alleged theft was reported 8:26 p.m. Wednesday.

The amount taken was worth more than $200, the police report said.

On Tuesday, Katherine Didion, 52, of Perrysburg was exercising at the YMCA when somebody smashed the front-passenger window of her 2009 Saturn Vue and stole several items, including her work computer and pursue containing two credit cards.

“The safety of our members is our priority. Signs are posted throughout our centers reminding members to not bring valuables to the Y and to not leave them in their cars,” the YMCA and JCC of Greater Toledo said in a statement today.

“Our parking lots are well lit, and staff periodically walk through parking lots looking for suspicious activity. Members are also asked to report any suspicious activity to our staff.”
