A 51-year-old Perrysburg man is in custody this morning, accused of firing shots from his pickup into another vehicle as they were traveling on West South Boundary Street near Mulberry Street in Perrysburg early Tuesday evening.
John Vandersall, who lives in a Colonial Gardens apartment, is charged with felonious assault and expected to be booked into the Wood County jail early this morning, according to Perrysburg police.
He is accused of firing shots at about 7:35 p.m. from his pickup into a sport utility vehicle carrying a man and woman who are not thought to be known to Mr. Vandersall, according to Pat Jones, a Perrysburg police detective. Shots hit the side and back of the sport utility vehicle. Other vehicles were in the area at the time.
Officers took Mr. Vandersall into custody at 1:12 a.m. at his apartment, where authorities found eight high-powered rifles and handguns and several hundred rounds of ammunition. Mr. Vandersall is believed to be the legal owner of the weapons, but the Wood County Special Response Team and negotiators from both the Perrysburg Police Division and Wood County sheriff's office were at the scene.
