Perrysburg man arrested for assaulting police officer

BLADE STAFF

Timothy Kazmaier was arrested for assaulting an officer Tuesday after he bit Perrysburg Police Officer Steven Stanton, kicked Officer Brandon Flick, and punched Officer Kandi Layton in the face.

Mr. Kazmaier, 24 of Perrysburg, is being held in the Wood County Jail. He is charged with three counts of assaulting an officer, each of which is fourth-degree felony.

He was in a verbal altercation at Swig's at 219 Louisiana Ave. when the police were called at 10:46 p.m. on a call about disorderly conduct. Officer Stanton was bitten when he tried to get Mr. Kazmaier's hands behind his back.

Officer Stanton was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was treated and released for the human bite on his left-middle finger. Perrysburg Sergeant Dean Butler said Officer Stanton suffered a bruise on his fingertip and punctures, but is OK and expected back to work after his regular days off Monday. He did not need stitches.

Sgt. Butler said officers Flick and Layton were OK and did not need treatment. He said Mr. Kazmaier hit them as he was flailing while being arrested.
