A new Perrysburg Township police officer was hired to replace Lt. Jim Pellek who is retiring at the end of the month.
Don Wibmer was hired at the township trustees department head meeting on Wednesday. He will be paid $26.43 an hour.
His first day will be Oct. 7. Mr. Wibmer was not at the meeting. He is coming from South Carolina.
The township rescheduled its next meeting for 5 p.m. Sept. 18, a hour before the meetings usually start. At 6 p.m. that night, the township will host a Ohio Department of Natural Resources meeting.
The ODNR will have engineers and a regional manager to take a question and answer session about the proposed mining area at 27226 Glenwood Road.
Wylie and Sons Landscaping LLC filed for an application for the mining permit in March to the ODNR. Township Administrator Walt Celley objected to the permit, citing that the work would create wear and tear on the road, that he was unsure whether reclamation would occur at the site, and other concerns about the business owner.
The trustees on Wednesday also approved spending $250 to have a sponsorship vendors table and for two township employees to go to the Northwest Ohio Planning and Zoning Workshop. The workshop is Oct. 25 at Owens Community College in the township.
