Students, teachers, and families walked, and walked, and walked during Woodland Elementary School's first annual Walk-A-Thon.
Perrysburg area residents were invited to participate in the event filled with walking, music, and prizes in efforts to raise money for the school. This new event will replace Woodland’s magazine sale.
Principal Dan Creps said more than $14,000 was raised, about $5,000 to $6,000 more than the usual amount for the school's fund-raiser. "We tried something new and it's turned out exceptionally well," he said.
Pledges will be used to update the school’s community learning center (library). The goal is to make it more inviting and educational for students.
Grades K, 1 and 5 were scheduled to walk from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and grades 2, 3 and 4 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. Students used the walking circle at Woodland Elementary in Perrysburg.
