Owens accreditation reaffirmed through 2020

Owens Community College has received notification from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association that the academic institution’s accreditation has been reaffirmed through 2020.

Owens, based on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township, has been accredited continuously through the Higher Learning Commission since 1976.

“I am extremely proud of our campus community for their hard work and dedication in achieving continued accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission,” said Mike Bower, Owens president. “This honor acknowledges and affirms our longstanding educational commitment to serving our students and the surrounding communities through excellence, innovation and collaboration.”

Owens maintains its accreditation status through the Academic Quality Improvement Program, which shows how the institution meets accreditation standards and expectations. During the seven-year period, Owens engaged in a variety of Academic Quality Improvement Program processes, such as Strategy Forums, Annual Updates, Systems Portfolio Appraisals and visits to review U.S. Department of Education compliance issues.

An Academic Quality Improvement Program Review Panel first examines the college, then an Institutional Actions Council then takes action on the review panel’s recommendation, and that goes to the Higher Learning Commission Board of Trustees for action. The Higher Learning Commission is an independent corporation and one of two commission members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, which was founded in 1895 as one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States.
