Perrysburg Schools contracts with the Perrysburg Education Association and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees both are set to expire this summer.
The two-year contract with Ohio Association of Public School Employees, which includes 180 bus drivers, custodians, monitors, and secretaries, expires June 30. The teachers' union two-year contract, which covers about 300 teachers, expires July 31.
Perrysburg Superintendent Tom Hosler said meetings are scheduled with the teachers union June 24 and with the OAPSE before the end of the month.
"I respect the staff and hope we can reach a settlement that we can live with moving forward with the budget and [that] compensates the employees fairly," Mr. Hosler said.
When the teachers union agreed to its last accord in 2011, it included a salary freeze for two years to help the school's budget. Mr. Hosler said the agreements are usually done before school gets out, but scheduling conflicts have kept the parties from meeting.
The district and the unions typically agree on a two-year contract because that is the term of the adopted state budgets. Sometimes, he said, there is a four-year deal with the unions, with an option to reopen some terms after two years in case there are budget changes.
"The challenges are getting people to the table at the same time," the superintendent said. "It is more because of dates, not problems [for not having a deal yet]."
