Perrysburg Schools has contracted with ABM Building Solutions and Campbell, Inc. to implement energy and infrastructure upgrades that will save the district $205,556 over the next 15 years.

The goal of the upgrades is to reduce the district’s energy and operating expenses.

The project began last month and is scheduled for completion in October, 2014.

“The driving force behind this project is creating ways to meet critical facility needs without increasing taxpayer burden,” Aura Norris, executive director of human resources and operations, said.

Under state legislation, the district can re-allocate the savings generated to pay for the capital upgrades.

Instead of purchasing new boilers, the district will save money by moving existing boilers to schools that need them. One boiler from Frank Elementary School will be moved to Toth Elementary School. Two boilers from the Perrysburg Junior High will be moved to Fort Meigs Elementary School.

In addition to relocating boilers, work will include lighting upgrades, water conservation, weather stripping and caulking, adding energy management systems, HVAC tune-ups, and kitchen hood controls at Perrysburg High, Perrysburg Junior High, Toth, and Woodland elementary schools.
