Area high school seniors are using spring break or taking the day off school for a campus visit to Owens Community College for "Registration Rocks" and setting up their college futures.
A few days last week, through Thursday this week, and again May 13 and 14, Owens hosts groups of about 30 students from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to set them up for their first semester of college. Placement tests, new student orientation, registering for classes, receiving their student IDs, and talking to academic advisers are some of the core things taken care of.
"It makes it very convenient for them," said Jennifer Irelan, Owens manager of enrollment communications and events. "We put two or three visits into one day. Unless they have specific questions or needs, they don't really have to come back to campus until classes begin."
Free lunch, tours, and a parent's workshop at the Perrysburg Township main campus also takes place during the day.
Clothing giveaways, music, and games are among the activities to make it fun event.
