Dave Hall, Perrysburg Schools head baseball coach and assistant athletic director, has been elected to the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He will be inducted in January.
Coach Hall, a social studies teacher at Perrysburg High School, is the president of the state baseball coaches association. He begins his 28th season at the high school; previously had 3 years as junior varsity coach and 4 years as junior varsity coach at Whitmer High School in Toledo.
In his high school coaching career, he has compiled a record of 504-280, winning seven Northern Lakes League titles, 12 sectional titles, four district titles, and his teams have made four trips to the regionals and two trips to the state Final Four in 2003 and 2011. In 2011, his team was the state runner-ups.
Ten of his teams have won 20 games in a season going 22-7 in 1998, 27-3 in 1999, 23-5 in 2001, 22-7 in 2002, 23-8 in 2003, 20-9 in 2005, 21-8 in 2008, 23-7 in 2009, 26-6 in 2010, and 26-4 in 2011.
He has coached 16 All-Ohio players. Sixty of his players have played college baseball, three have been drafted and five have played professional baseball. Two players made it to the Majors Leagues — Ron Rightnowar with the Milwaukee Brewers and Burke Badenhop who recently was traded from Tampa Bay to Milwaukee.
Coach Hall has been Northern Lakes League Coach of the Year seven times and Northwest Ohio Coach of the Year four times. He was selected to coach in the Mizuno Senior All Star Series in 1998. In addition, the Jackets also have qualified for the Ohio State Acme State Championships nine times, winning the Acme State Title in 1998.
He has been a member of the state baseball coaches association Board of Directors from 1992 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2010, and an officer from 2010 to the present. He also is the Web site coordinator for the group. In addition he has been on the Acme Baseball Congress Board of Directors for 16 years and was inducted into the Acme Hall of Fame in 2010. He was president of the Toledo Metro Baseball Coaches Association. Over the years, he has been involved as a speaker at camps and clinics throughout Ohio.
Coach Hall is a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He is a graduate of the University of Toledo with a B.Ed degree in Social Sciences and an M.Ed. degree in Administration. He was part of the baseball team at UT serving as member of freshmen team, batting practice pitcher and team statistician.
