The Perrysburg Township Police Department recently graduated its first Citizen Police Academy class.
This nine-week course was spearheaded by Sgt. Mike Munoz, who was helped by other law enforcement officials, Perrysburg Township Fire Department members, and individuals from other local agencies. The focus of the course was to educate participants about the operations of the township police department.
Over a dozen participants gained an understanding of the responsibilities and laws governing the police department. Classes centered on topics such as road patrol, criminal interdiction, and the use of force. Participants also had the opportunity to learn about tasers, spend time at the firing range, and receive CPR certification.
Another aspect of the course included the help of Perrysburg Municipal Court Judge Dwight Osterud and Assistant Prosecutor Heather Baker, who illustrated details of the judicial system.
Each participant was presented with a certification upon completion of the course.
This program is made possible by the dedication of the township police department. The members of the department believe the success of crime prevention and detection rests upon a solid partnership with the community. Please stay tuned for information about future classes.
