Perrysburg Schools has found its oldest living alumna in Ellen Christina Swartz Limmer, who is 106.

In the spring issue of The Latest Buzz, the district’s alumni newsletter, the school announced it was searching for its oldest living alumna or alumnus.

Mrs. Limmer’s sons, Bill (’49) and Harry (’55) as well as Harry’s wife, Jackie (’55), contacted the district and shared that their 106-year-old mother, still a Perrysburg resident, graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1924.

“We’re so proud to honor Mrs. Limmer,” said Superintendent Tom Hosler. “Her love of family and nature as well as her drive to always give back to her community and to those whom she loves is an inspiration to all of us at Perrysburg Schools.”

Born in 1907, Mrs. Limmer’s first home was a farm on the south side of Avenue Road and then a farm on Glenwood Road. She attended Glenwood School before graduating from Perrysburg High in 1924. She went to graduate nurse's training in 1928 from Robinwood Hospital in Toledo.

Ellen married Howard Limmer on Nov. 18, 1930. Ellen married Howard Limmer on Nov. 18, 1930.

Although Mrs. Limmer never pursued a nursing job, she cared for many family members over the years. She also worked for the family rabbit and chicken businesses.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Limmer has been a strong advocate for healthy eating and fitness. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in Pennsylvania and southeastern Ohio — always taking the scenic routes. She also enjoyed taking nature photos.

Mrs. Limmer also volunteered for the Church of the Master and the Lutheran Home in Toledo. The couple joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge in the 1980s.

Mrs. Limmer has always kept a positive attitude and enjoyed a very loving marriage. She is very proud of her sons and their families.
