Perrysburg Twp. man robbed at gunpoint

BLADE STAFF

A Perrysburg Township man was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday in West Toledo by a man whom he had arranged a meeting with on the Internet to buy an iPad tablet computer.

Ganga Varanasi told police he went to Westfield Franklin Park mall to meet a man he knew only as "Eddie," who had advertised the brand-new iPad on Craigslist for $450.

When the two met in the mall's parking lot at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Mr. Varanasi asked to see the device's warranty, but the suspect said he didn't want to void the warranty by allowing him to open the box, according to the police report. When Mr. Varanasi said he was no longer interested in the purchase, the suspect pulled a handgun from an ankle holster and demanded cash, the report said.

Mr. Varanasi told police his assailant was white, in his mid-30s, about 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighed about 165 pounds, and had gray hair.
