A baby girl born after an emergency cesarean section died of blunt-force trauma, according to an autopsy performed today.

The baby, named Melissa Kominek, was pronounced dead at 2:19 a.m. Sunday at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after a car crash that killed her mother, Rachel Kominek, 26, Thursday evening.

Mrs. Kominek's husband, Dustin Kominek, 24, was driving on a snow-covered U.S. 20 in Perrysburg Township when he lost control of his vehicle.

The Kominek's car slid sideways and was struck by another vehicle.

The baby was delivered inside an ambulance before being flown to the hospital.

Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Maneesha Pandey said she is waiting on a crash report and medical records to make a final ruling, but preliminary autopsy results show the baby died of blunt-force trauma to the head.
