Three Toledo-area companies have been named winners of the annual Presidential "E" Awards, which recognize high achievements in increasing U.S. exports.

They were Toledo-based Bionix Development Corp., which manufactures and sells medical devices, Perrysburg-based New Waste Concepts Inc., which makes environmental cleanup products and equipment, and Holland-based International Projects Inc., which provides international trade training and consulting.

The awards, created by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, are to be given today at the White House.

Out of the 41 companies being honored, six are based in Ohio.
