Life in Early Ohio at Fort Meigs in Perrysburg on Saturday, kicked off a two-day event that features historical actors giving demonstrations of life around the time of the War of 1812.

Jenna Gebauer, 4, smiles after Perrysburg resident John Destatte placed a small weight in her hand to even out the authentic scale in which she was weighed during Saturday morning's event Life in Early Ohio at Fort Meigs in Perrysburg. The two-day event features historical actors giving demonstrations of life around the time of the War of 1812. Many of the actives offered were hands-on for children. The scale in which Gebauer was weighted had iron forged in sometime between the late 1700's and early 1800's, though the ropes and platforms had been replaced. In addition of demonstrations are artillery fire and tool-making, the fort also featured a number of hands-on activities for children.
