After carnival and pony rides, games, crafts, and live music, people celebrating the Fourth of July Wednesday at Fort Meigs looked up and enjoyed the Perrysburg-Maumee annual fireworks show at about 10 p.m.

Orleans Park, Riverside Park, and Hood Park were places where residents checked out the $29,000 fireworks show. The explosives were launched from the Maumee-Perrysburg bridge. There were boaters on the Maumee River able to watch the fireworks from a distance, perhaps enhanced by the bright colored reflections off the water.

The Star Spangled Banner Celebration at Fort Meigs was put on by the Prevention Partners, a program of Behavior Connections, to provide a family-friendly, drug and alcohol-free event to celebrate Independence Day.

Jon Eckel, director of public services with Perrysburg, said he was excited before the show with the newly planned grand opening display of fireworks, which was expected to catch viewers by surprise. The show also had a big finale display.

The bridge was closed from 8 p.m. to around midnight because of the show.
